What a Kai Ken’s height measures
Height is measured at the withers, the top of the shoulders. The head and ears extend above that line. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale standard gives Male 50 cm and female 45 cm, each with a tolerance of plus or minus 3 cm: male 47-53 cm, female 42-48 cm. Choose the sex or size variety above where the source separates them. A range describes the published listing, not the height of every individual dog.
Ranked by the tallest height its standard names (21 in), the Kai Ken is the joint 138th smallest of the 297 dog breeds on this site. See the smallest dog breeds ranked.
Drawn at the same 18.5 in: Silken Windhound, Braque Francais Pyrenean and Standard Schnauzer. Same drawing, different listings: a Kai Ken’s and a Standard Schnauzer’s figures are each the lower end of its male range, a Silken Windhound’s and a Braque Francais Pyrenean’s each the lower end of its range.
This is a published species or breed reference, not a prediction for an individual animal. Where a range is supplied, both ends appear with the reading. Shoulder height and head height are kept apart when comparing animals.
