What a Finnish Lapphund’s height measures
Height is measured at the withers, the top of the shoulders. The head and ears extend above that line. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale standard gives Male ideal 49 cm and female ideal 44 cm, each with a tolerance of plus or minus 3 cm: male 46-52 cm, female 41-47 cm. Choose the sex or size variety above where the source separates them. A range describes the published listing, not the height of every individual dog.
Ranked by the tallest height its standard names (20.5 in), the Finnish Lapphund is the 133rd smallest of the 297 dog breeds on this site. See the smallest dog breeds ranked.
Drawn at the same 18 in: Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog and Icelandic Sheepdog. Same drawing, different listings: a Finnish Lapphund’s, a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier’s and an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog’s figures are each the lower end of its male range.
This is a published species or breed reference, not a prediction for an individual animal. Where a range is supplied, both ends appear with the reading. Shoulder height and head height are kept apart when comparing animals.
