Height percentile for children and teens, 2 to 20
For a child, the fair comparison is with children of the same age and sex. The CDC growth charts, the ones US pediatricians plot heights on, give that share for every month from age 2 to 20.

The height at a percentile, at that age
The 90th percentile for girls aged 8 years is 4 ft 5.5 in (135.6 cm).
A percentile says where a child stands today, not how tall they will be. To predict the adult height from the child’s growth and both parents, use the child height calculator. The charts draw the 3rd to the 97th percentile; outside that band the answer gives a bound. One reading says little on its own: a doctor looks at several, months apart.

What the answer means
A percentile describes where a height falls in this surveyed population. The 75th percentile means about three quarters of that group were shorter. It is not a health score or a prediction of growth.
We interpolate in a straight line between the published percentile points and round the estimate to a whole percentile. The “1 in N” line comes from the same estimate. Below the 5th or above the 95th, the answer gives a bound: the table does not support a more precise estimate. Survey estimates have sampling uncertainty, and each age group is a smaller sample than the whole survey.

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare measured height in its National Health and Nutrition Survey in 2018 and 2019, and publishes percentiles from the 1st to the 99th for four adult age groups (18–29, 30–49, 50–69, and 70 and older), with pregnant and breastfeeding women left out. There is no combined adult figure.
